Mini-Update

September 5, 2017

I felt like I needed to update my blog...but didn't want to just bore you all (and myself) with just writing about training. So, here's a list of things that have made me excited/happy/entertained/etc. the last few weeks! Enjoy.

In no particular order:

- I've been taking my afternoon naps (when needed) in my new Nemo sleeping bag. No, I'm not sponsored (I wish). I just absolutely LOVE this sleeping bag. I sleep on my sides, and this sleeping bag is perfectly shaped for just that. I think I'm obsessed with it, and can't wait to go camping with it at some point.

- I've been keeping up with my cousins, Rob and Renn and their kids Elle and Berkley, while they travel the world! They have a  fantastic YouTube channel, definitely worth checking out. It's exciting to see them in Europe now, I hope they get to see some of the places I visit in the winter!

- I got to watch live music with old & new friends! The band was Bella's Bartok, and they were incredible. SO much dancing, tons of glitter, and a well deserved beer after a tough week of training.

One of their more popular songs:

- It's finally beginning to feel a bit more like fall here in Lake Placid. Fall is probably my second favorite season, after winter. I just love being able to wear more comfy layers, plus I get to drink more tea!

- Sometimes I start to feel a little down when I'm stuck in Lake Placid for long periods of time, but I've found that I just need to jam out HARD to music when this happens and I turn out feeling much better. I recently just made a new playlist on Spotify that's perfect for singing and dancing in the shower.

- I recently designed a website for my boyfriends mobile phone repair business out in Boulder, CO. If you or anybody you know lives out in that area and needs their phone screen replaced, check out 30th Street Phone Repair and book an appointment!

- I watched The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks on HBO the other day, which was so interesting! Which was about how a journalist named Rebecca Skloot recounts learning about an African American woman named Henrietta Lacks, who died in 1951 of cervical cancer, but whose cancerous cells became the first immortal human cell line, called HeLa. Scientists have used HeLa cells to develop the polio vaccine; they have gone into space and have been exposed to nuclear testing and to toxins. The cells have furthered our understanding of cancer, HIV/AIDS and cells in general, and are still widely used today to grow viruses and to test anti-tumor medicines. Overall, I thought this movie was so fascinating to watch, and I'm glad I got to learn about HeLa cells and Henrietta Lacks.

- I'm looking to jump back into listening to podcasts and reading more books. So if anybody has any suggestions, feel free to comment below or shoot me a message!

Well, that's about all I have for you. I'll be training hard here in Lake Placid for the next two weeks, and then I'm heading out to Boulder, CO for our recovery week! Until then, I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day and are excited for the fall to begin!
