June came and went

June 30, 2016

It's already almost July?! Seriously, where did the time go...It's been more than a month since I last updated this blog but it feels like a week. So many different things have been going on in my life this past month, I"ll try to summarize it all for you.

First I would like to thank my most recent sponsors; Helmer's Fuel, Water Safari, and Old Forge Fitness! These are all local sponsors from my home town (Old Forge, NY) and I'm thrilled to have them join me on my biathlon journey! Thank you so much for your support!! Check out their websites via the "Sponsors" tab above.

Earlier this month I got to spend some time training with my friend Chloe, which was really fun! We did a bunch of hiking and talking. Then I entered a training week where I was planning on hitting 25 hours, which is one of the biggest volume weeks I've ever done. It started out with a 70 mile bike ride, followed by a 5.5 hour hike in the cold/rain...that's where it went downhill. I had been struggling with a persistent cough, and I found out that it was in fact...pneumonia. The doc prescribed antibiotics and 5 days of rest...so no more 25 hour week for me! I was really bummed to be sick, and felt like it was a setback. But thankfully I'm fully recovered from it now, and getting back into training!

After being diagnosed with pneumonia, I took about 10 "personal days". My cousin was getting married down in Maryland, which my family and I drove down to and met up with the rest of our extended family. It was a beautiful wedding and an amazing reception. It was great to see all of my family members and catch up with everyone. Following the wedding, I was home for a few days and got to get some training in with my good friend from high school, Caitlin. We did some hiking and hit up the gym one afternoon as well.

Then, I took a quick trip down to Florida to see my brother. He has been training down in Pensacola to become a Naval Flight Officer. He has finally earned his wings, and I was there to pin him during the ceremony. Unfortunately, non of my other family members could join because my younger sister had her high school graduation during the same time. It wasn't ideal that the two events took place during the same time, but I'm happy I got to be there for my brother.

Finally, I'm back up in Lake Placid and am excited to be healthy and ready to train again! This past week has been filled with intervals, strength, distance hikes, and a shooting drills. Yesterday we did a French Test, which is a shooting test that focuses on both precision and speed. The best score you can reach is 600 points...my previous best was around 490 points, but I have just destroyed that record with a 556!! It's so satisfying to see the results after putting in the effort. I'm hoping to continue this success with my shooting throughout the year and into the following season.

I'll be in Lake Placid for the rest of the summer. I'll try to update again in the next two weeks or so...Until then, hope you are all having a great summer, and an awesome Fourth of July!
