Italy to USA

I left you in my last blog saying I had met up with my boyfriend and his family in Cortina, Italy for a ski vacation. It was such a fun trip and a great way to end the season over in Europe! I spent the week downhill skiing with them, and eating tons of delicious food. My happiness was overflowing. Here are photos from my time there!

En route to Cortina, I spent a few hours in a smaller town with this view!

First lunch in Italy: potatoes, eggs, speck and of course and Aperol spritz!

Cheers!!

The views were incredible...

Happy Maddie!

We stopped at one of the Messner Museums on the top of one of the mountains, it was great. Amazing artwork, sculptures, and information on the history of alpinism.

I loved this painting

Precut speck...

All in all, this trip was amazing. Thank you to the Rosh family and friends for welcoming me with open arms! After this ski vacation, I headed home to the States - just in the knick of time as Italy began finding more and more cases of coronavirus throughout their country.

I was happy to get home after months of traveling and being on the road. I've been skiing as much as possible and spending time with friends and family.

Back at home skiing McCauley Mountain - the mountain where I learned how to ski!

Love this hill!

I was gifted with a surprise backcountry ski clinic by my boyfriend while I was home. I've been trying to get more involved in backcountry skiing, so this was a great way to learn from knowledgable guides in a safe environment. I was in a women's only clinic, so there was myself and about six other women who were guided by Andrea Charest (owner and professional guide for Petra Cliffs) and Caroline Gleich (professional ski mountaineer who's summited Everest among other accomplishments). I had such a fun day, and am grateful I live in a place with so much access to the outdoors!

We made it! This was my group - I had so much fun with them all and we had such a perfect day!

Since then, we've unfortunately lost a lot of our snowpack due to warm temps, rain, and wind. I've summer waxed my skis, but fingers crossed we get some more snow and I can ski one last time! I'll be spending the next month spending time in Lake Placid and Old Forge. My plan is to continue training and racing next season with NYSEF. US Biathlon National Team announcements will take place this coming month, and I'm hoping to get renamed and invited to some training camps this summer - but we will see! I'll keep you all updated.

Right now with the coronavirus pandemic occurring, we're all in a weird spot. I'm trying to isolate myself as much as possible, but still get outside for some much needed Vitamin D and nature therapy. This virus hasn't affected anybody in my immediate friend group or family, but I know it's just a matter of time. My thoughts are with you all, and I'm sending positive vibes and health your way. Stay smart these next few weeks - avoid unnecessary travel, practice social distancing, wash your hands, be kind to others! This too shall pass.
