Summer Training

As we approach mid-July, it's safe to say that summer training is in full swing! For those of you who don't know, I've been living and training full-time in Lake Placid, NY with the NYSEF Nordic/Biathlon Team. So far I've loved working with NYSEF and can't wait to represent them on the snow this winter. To learn more about their program, head here.

I moved up to Lake Placid at the start of June, and the training has been going really well so far! I've been having a lot of fun getting to know my new teammates, training in a familiar area, and meeting new friends. I've been feeling super happy, motivated, and have been quite healthy compared to previous training seasons. Only time will tell how this new training plan works for me this winter.

I'd like to thank my local sponsors supporting me this training season. Without their support this lifestyle would be nearly impossible to continue. If you're in the Old Forge area, consider supporting these businesses! Blizzard Manufacturing, Barneveld Physical Therapy, Adirondack Homes and Real Estate, Burkhard-Evans, Inc., and TOW Bar Inn

I won't get into the nitty-gritty of my day-to-day training schedule for the summer, instead I'll give you some highlights below with descriptions on what I've been up to since I last updated you all. You can also check out my Facebook page or Instagram for more recent updates!

What's next for me? We've got one month until the first races of World Cup/IBU Cup Trials, which are taking place in Jericho, VT on August 17-18. If you're around, come check it out! Race details here. We'd love to have you cheering us on!

I'll continue training in Lake Placid with NYSEF for this coming month, race in Vermont, and then I'll be heading down to North Carolina to spend a week at the beach recovering and getting in some much needed family time! Until then, enjoy the photos and check back in late August for another update.

Mountain biking with these strong, badass, inspiring group of women (and my mother!) before moving up to Lake Placid. It was in the 40's and rained the entire time, nobody complained and we all had smiles on at the end!

One of the first training sessions with my new team (NYSEF) - I bet you couldn't tell that I'm the oldest in this photo...certainly not the tallest!

My friend Marion came to visit me! We went rollerskiing, shopping, spent a lot of time catching up, but most importantly went and got ICE CREAM.

I traveled to Vermont in mid June to talk about climate change and Protect Our Winters during an enduro bike race. What a fun event! Check out The Ranger for more info, I'm hoping to race it next year - who wants to join me?

The US Biathlon Women's National Team was in town in late June! I had the pleasure of joining them on a fun hike/run up Mt. Marcy (the tallest peak in NY). Here's our "before" photo - I'd like to report we were all just about this happy at the end!

I've really enjoyed being able to volunteer my time by working with the Devo biathlon/cross country kids! Here you can see Kim Douglas and Kelly Kjorlien working with the kids on the range.

My teammate Nina showing how seriously she takes her recovery. Float season is upon us! This afternoon it was a little too cloudy to go out on the lake, so we all hung out on the shoreline instead.

Went to Vermont one weekend to ride bikes! It was the perfect day that included biking, eating lots of snacks, ice cream, checking out a new brewery, a beautiful ferry ride at sunset, and catching up with Marion!

Photo evidence of hanging out with Marion at the brewery.

Not to mention, I also got to see my best good friend, Hannah Miller, while in Vermont that day!! I lived on Hannahs futon for about two months when I was living in Boulder this winter, and we became such good friends. It was a quick reunion, but I'll take it!

I made the trip down to Old Forge to check out the new mountain bike trails at McCauley, and to say goodbye to my neighbors, the Crimmins Family! They're such great people and it's been so fun to get to know them and their wonderful kids Liam and Ellie. They will surely be missed in our little community, and I hope our paths cross again in the near future!

NYSEF at the Fourth of July parade in Lake Placid! So fun to march alongside these kiddos!

Got to spend time with my family during the weekend of Fourth of July. It's rare that we're all in one place at the same time. We spent the day out on the lake enjoying the sun!

Another mountain bike adventure in Lake Placid. Enjoying the sunset on the golf course, with Whiteface Mountain in the background. Are you sensing a theme for the summer? Bikes, perhaps?

I swear I've been training! Despite the lack of photographic's a photo during some slowfire shooting drills on the range at Van Hoe with my trusty Lost Nation R&D stock!
