Racing in the summer? Yup. We just had our first set of World Cup team trials, also known as our US Biathlon Rollerski Nationals. They are held in Jericho, VT and the weather tends to be hot and humid...this year did not disappoint. Before I get into the races, here are some highlights of this past month of training.
We had some Swedish biathletes (Maja and Emma) visiting for a week, and it was fun to make new friends and train with them! Below, we hiked Big Slide Mountain one afternoon.
I had my first rollerski crash of the season...that's not always a fun thing to do, but it healed quickly!
My teammates Susan, Clare, and I helped our former teammate Annelies with her "Girls Group" one evening. They get together about once or twice a week throughout the summer and do fun activities. This time they were learning about biathlon, and we got to help them out! We ended it with a fun relay.
This past week was spent in Jericho, VT getting ready for the first set of World Cup team trials. There was a small group of Swedish biathletes there as well, which was again fun to meet new people and train with them. Most of the week was spent training in the heat and humidity, catching up with biathletes from all over the country and Canada that I hadn't seen since the winter, and checking out Burlington. Here are some photos from my former MWSC teammate Katrina Howe.
The races didn't go quite as well as I was hoping. My shooting percentages were awful...50% in the Sprint, and 60% in the Mass Start. The skiing felt pretty good for the first race, and then my body was just tired and slow during the Mass Start. It's hard not to be disappointed and frustrated after coming out of this weekends set of races. I'd be lying if I said I didn't cry after both of my races...it happens. I can usually count on my shooting ability, and this weekend it just fell apart. But, you learn from mistakes and the bad races.
Race results can be found above in the "Competition" tab, under "Results".
Now I'm home for a short bit before heading over to Germany for a three week training camp. I'm excited I've been given the opportunity to be a part of this camp, and can't wait to check out the ski tunnel in Oberhof! Hope everyone is having a great August...Fall is just around the corner!
